Effective Hip Pain Treatment Available at Our Urgent Care Center in Manhattan
Hip pain can strike suddenly with trauma, such as a fall or car accident that results in a fracture, dislocation, strain, or another injury. It can also develop gradually over time due to repetitive use or age-related degeneration, which can lead to conditions such as tendonitis and arthritis. While many hip conditions can cause similar pain, different treatment methods are often required. Therefore, it’s important to consult with a physician who can interpret your symptoms and determine their cause.
If hip pain is very severe or accompanied by an obvious deformity or an inability to move or bear weight, it’s best to seek emergency medical attention at a hospital ER. On the other hand, mild to moderate hip pain can be promptly evaluated and treated by the licensed medical professionals at MedRite Urgent Care in Manhattan.
How can hip pain be managed?
A key component of initial treatment for many types of hip pain is rest. Another potentially beneficial treatment is cold therapy. An ice pack can be applied to the painful area for approximately 15 minutes several times a day as needed. Some people also benefit from heat therapy, such as a warm bath or shower to help relax tight muscles in preparation for physical therapy. A physician-approved workout program consisting of stretches, low-impact exercises, and light resistance training can further improve comfort, mobility, and range of motion.
Hip pain associated with osteoarthritis, tendinitis, or a strained muscle may also improve with an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as acetaminophen, or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen. Rheumatoid arthritis treatment may include prescription-strength anti-inflammatory medications such as corticosteroids, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), or biologics, which can stimulate an immune system response.
Surgery, such as a total hip replacement procedure, may be considered to address severe osteoarthritis or a hip fracture that causes intense pain or joint deformity.
