Ankle Sprain Treatment in the Manhattan Neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen

Sprain Treatment Hell’s Kitchen NY

Did you trip and roll your ankle during your morning jog through Hell’s Kitchen? Are you concerned that your injury might require more than an ice pack? You may have overstretched a ligament, resulting in a sprain. However, your ligament injury could be accompanied by a more serious issue, such as a bone fracture, so it’s best to find out for sure—especially if your pain is severe or you can’t support any weight on your injured leg. The experienced and compassionate medical providers at MedRite Urgent Care are ready to help.

Don’t hesitate to come to MedRite for sprain treatment. Our walk-in clinics in Manhattan are open every day during extended hours, and our wait times are typically short. We accept many health insurance plans and have affordable rates for those paying out of pocket. For all of those reasons and more, MedRite is a convenient alternative to an ER when you need non-emergency health care such as sprain treatment on short notice.

What Does Sprain Treatment Involve?

Your provider at MedRite will likely order an X-ray—which we can perform on site—to thoroughly evaluate your injury. If we rule out a fracture and diagnose you with a mild to moderate sprain, we may suggest RICE therapy. This tried-and-true form of sprain treatment involves:

  • Rest – As you recover from your sprain, you should avoid any activities that cause or worsen the pain in your ankle. Your provider may suggest some simple range-of-motion stretches that you can perform to promote healing.
  • Ice – Apply an ice pack to your injured ankle as needed to reduce painful swelling. Limit each icing to 10 to 15 minutes every 1 to 2 hours.
  • Compression – Use an elastic bandage to support and stabilize your injured joint. Wrap your ankle snugly—but not too tightly—and loosen or remove the bandage when you go to bed.
  • Elevation – Prop up your injured leg during the day, and place a pillow beneath your ankle in bed at night. By elevating your injury above the level of your heart, you can help reduce swelling and pain.

If you need further pain relief, your provider can suggest a topical cream or an over-the-counter medication. We’ll also send you home with a pair of crutches if you need them.

Most sprains aren’t serious and heal quickly with proper treatment, but it’s a good idea to get your injury checked out if you have concerns or it isn’t getting better. The trusted, friendly medical professionals at MedRite Urgent Care will help you get back on your feet in no time.
