Prompt & Professional Wound Care in Spring Valley, NY
Cuts and scrapes happen all the time. While even superficial wounds need first aid to help prevent infection and promote proper healing, more serious wounds require professional wound care. In these instances, it’s important to know when to rush to an emergency room and when you can seek treatment at an urgent care center.
At MedRite Urgent Care, we encourage you to call 911 or go directly to a hospital ER if you have a deep wound that is bleeding uncontrollably or has obvious bone or joint involvement. Otherwise, you are welcome to come to our office in Spring Valley, New York, to receive prompt and effective wound care.
Types of Wounds We Treat
To help you decide whether it is appropriate to seek wound care at our urgent care center, here are some types of wounds that we commonly treat:
- Straight cuts with sides that can be easily pushed together
- Cuts and abrasions that have embedded dirt
- Insect and animal bites
- Shallow facial cuts
- Minor cuts that were caused by rusty objects
What Does Non-Emergency Wound Care Involve?
Your first step – before you even leave home – is to apply firm direct pressure to your wound with a clean cloth or sterile bandage, which can help control any bleeding. Then, after you arrive at MedRite Urgent Care, an experienced medical professional will:
- Thoroughly clean your wound
- Assess the surrounding muscles, bones, and nerves for damage
- Suture your wound, if necessary
- Dress your wound
- Prescribe antibiotics to help prevent infection
- Prescribe pain-relieving medication, if needed
We’ll also provide you with instructions for at-home wound care. Your provider will explain how to keep your wound clean, moist, and covered. If you receive sutures, we’ll let you know when to return to our office to have your sutures removed.
If you need urgent care for a non-life-threatening wound, come to MedRite Urgent Care in Spring Valley, NY. Our office is open every day during extended hours, and we do not require appointments.
